2012 SUMMER PROGRAMS AT THE ANDOVER PUBLIC LIBRARY

As challenges between adult and kid readers seem to be popular, this summer, we're going to see who can put more "BEEs" in their hive. To that end, our kick-off event will be a party at the library with singer, Ruth O'Neil, from Song-Day-Music.

June 25 6:00PM "BEE ON TRACK"

KICK-OFF PARTY

Admission to the party is free, but we'd like to have a head-count of how many readers plan to attend, so please let us know your plans by Friday, June 22th at 6PM. We'll explain the BUZZ/reading program during the party.

 *for unassisted readers, age 5-13, every 2 books get 1 bee;
assisted readers must read 4 books for 1 bee

Reptiles and Amphibians with Brian from Riverside Reptiles

Tie Dyed T-shirts with Sharpies
Saturday, June 30th @ 11am – 12:15pm     OR     Monday, July 2nd @ 3 - 4:15pm
we’ll be using a newer, less messy technique for this class to create one-of-a-kind T-shirts. Children and adults can decorate one shirt, which you provide (prewashed). We’ll provide the rest of the materials.
You should bring along a plastic bag for carrying your finished shirt home. Dress appropriately as we will be using permanent markers, meaning “Don’t wear something you cannot get paint on!” We have room for 10 participants, ages 7 through adult at each session. You must register for this class by June 27th
.

Hoots & Owls
Friday, July 6th @ 11:30am – 12:30pm
There are a variety of owls found in Connecticut, all adapted to life after dark. Learn how these birds navigate through darkness and find food using vision and hearing. Several mounted specimens will be providing
an up-close view of these nocturnal animals. Learn to distinguish calls and spot the physical clues that identify them. Stories and folklore will be included to help dispel myths and expand your understanding of owls. Program includes making glow-in-the-dark glasses. This program is presented by CT D.E.E.P.

Traditional Archery with Scott Gray
Tuesday and Thursday, July 10th and 12th @ 6:30 – 8pm
Learn to shoot in the traditional way. Open to children age 7 thru 12. This is an introduction to traditional archery. We will learn about history, safety, proper form, and all we’ll need to know to use a “stick and string.” Find out how people throughout history were able to master this tool for survival and war. We will make leather arm guards and finger tabs to take home. The cost is $8.00* per child for the 2 night class. Class is limited to 8 students. Please wear an old t-shirt to the first class as it does get messy using the staining solution for your arm guards.
*Registration is required and the fee is non-refundable.
